2nd Quarter Moon in Taurus

But only until 1:56 PM Eastern Standard Time. Then it is void-of-course until 8:58 PM when it enters Gemini. Activities started when the moon is v/c will not come to fruition or will turn out very differently than planned. You have been warned!

Personally, I plan on just staring forward blankly during that time and then I plan on getting on the train and going home. We'll see how that turns out. I'll keep you posted.

In other news:

The L Word started last night. At the risk of sounding like such a lesbian, can I just say that Bette and Tina's relationship doesn't seem the least bit any better than it ever was. I'm almost wishing they'd break up again. And what was with that playgroup? Who does that??? And, I've just got to say that Helena is much much more attractive now that she's not trying to get in the way of Bette and Tina (can you tell that for very personal reasons I want Bette and Tina's relationship to work?) I can almost give myself permission to fantasize about her now.

Ok, I'm done with that for now. Moving on...

The 3rd season of Battlestar Galactica started on Friday. (What, did you think I was going to talk about something other than television today? What's funny is that Kristin and I don't have TV in our house, if we're watching TV it means we're crashing other people's pads. In this case we were keeping N company now that A has made the move to Portland.) This show... what can I say about it? Pure adrenaline. Pure hit-you-in-the-gut emotion. Oh. My. God. It just keeps getting better and better. If you've never seen it, go rent the first season. Well, rent the miniseries that the Scifi channel made to see if people would be interested in watching a remake of Battlestar. Then rent the first season. And hopefully the second season will be out on DVD soon. If you can't find these and you're someone I know and you really want to see them (and what rational, thinking human being doesn't?) contact me and I'll see what I can do.

This show is doing what sci-fi does best: it gives you a glimpse of the full range of human emotion and behavior in a setting that is removed enough from current reality that very difficult political situations and suppositions can be discussed and played out in a way that seems less politicized, but close enough to the modern condition that the repercussions/lessons hit home hard. Up until now Farscape and Firefly were my all-time favorite shows. I still love them, but Battlestar has blown them away. I thought that Farscape was edgier than Firefly (and I know that this was because Whedon was handicapped by Fox -- I still haven't seen Serenity, so I have yet to see what Whedon did with his creative license); but (and I say this with great love because I loooooooooooooooved the show) Farscape was too far removed from our social condition -- a little too 'out there'as it were, too many aliens, too much weird technology -- to hit as hard as it could. Battlestar hits you with blade-spiked brass knuckles. Even if you don't think Science Fiction is worth your time you will love this show. Dammit, just go watch the show.

You can thank me later.

I'm already a Battlestar fan, no sale needed here. I just wanted to gently warn you that I was a little disappointed in Serenity after enjoying Firefly so much. It's still good, and you should watch it, I just have a tendency to build some movies up to impossible heights in my mind and be disappointed when reality doesn't measure up to my imagination. Actually, I do that with everything-not just movies. Anyway, that's my warning and you should probably take it with a huge grain of salt or whatever else helps to wash it down. I won't get into specifics about what I didn't like because I do not spoil movies-and, as I mentioned, it's still worth watching since it's all we have to end Firefly with.

I'm so glad someone else thinks the same things I do about Bette and Tina's relationship! And I completely agree with you about Helena. She is definitely much more attractive now that she isn't being a manipulative b*tch trying to come between Bette and Tina. The Bette/Tina thing is really very pathetic... I hope they pull it together and don't continue to go off the deep end. (I can't believe I left a whole comment about The L Word.)

I think the Helena & Alice storyline is going to be hilarious!

And thank you for promising that playgroups are not actually going to be like that.

BTW, I did think that the social worker's question to Bette about taking one of the 6 jobs she's been offered was the one reasonable question she asked. Besides, maybe, if she could get some help getting up the stairs.

We're just finishing season 2 of the L Word. Good lord, that show NEEDS some sexy chubby women on it. Really.

Season 3 has Carmen's family...Mom is big, but I'm not sure you can call her sexy.

Oddly enough, I think the slice of lesbian life they're trying to portray may actually not include butches or big girls.

I know that makes no sense, but it really may be true. Last year, I was in LA for work with another dyke colleague. Two of her SoCal buds, also dykes, drove into West Hollywood to meet us and watch an episode at some swanky dyke bar.

The 4 of us easily outmassed any 6 other people in the bar. Maybe even any 7 other people. In fact, the smallest 1 of us was noticably bigger than any other woman in the bar. But at a dyke bar anywhere else in the US, we'd range from average to big-ish, and probably none of us would have been the biggest sexy chubby girl in the bar.

Oh, and no one outside of our group was visibly butch, at least not to me. The most butch was probably at the same point along the butch-femme scale as Shane.

It was a strange sensation, but it made The L Word more plausible for me.

While I don't know about the L-word, (don't have showtime) I do have a plumbing question.

How do I clear a slowly draining tub drain without draino or professional intervention as I can't get to the pipes to unscrew them?

Draino does have a specific warning not to use in disposers.I looked at my bottle of the nasty stuff at home.

I've noticed that when I don't have a TV at home, I'm always more fascinated with them at other people's houses. Something primordial in me compels me to stare, thinking (on a primordial level):

"Oooooooooh. Pretty colors."

As for the L-Word, I did watch season one and part of season two, but I've lost touch with it since. Maybe if I had Showtime... It's nice to hear that Bete and Tina got back together, though. The writer was just plain trying to make us angry when she threw that stretch of pain in. Of course, looking back to the foundations, there was bound to be conflict between them. You have Bete, whose name means "beast" in French and Tina whose name is close to the word "Tiny" and their personalities crafted to fit these words. Bete who revolves around power and unbridled passion... Tina, who is prone to let herself shrink out of the way until she all but disappears. Conflict was in the cards. But in other ways, they seemed the perfect couple with plenty of resources and plenty to offer each other, who everyone was behind and rooting for, and them BAM!
